Your Action Needed
Sign a petition to protect Montrose Beach Piping Plovers
In June of 2019, a pair of federally-endangered Great Lakes Piping Plovers laid eggs on Montrose beach.
A music festival, Mamby on the Beach, has applied for a permit to bring 50,00 people to the beach. CAS, COS and Illinois Ornithological Society request that it be moved.
Restore Protections to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Believe it or not, some of the birds that migrate through Chicago rely on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge has never been in greater danger, as the administration continues the rush to open it to oil drilling. But there's hope. A new bill in Congress would restore longstanding protections to the Refuge. Visit the Audubon Action Center by clicking the link below.
Support a Chicago Bird-Friendly Design Ordinance
The numbers are staggering. In North America alone, it is estimated that as many as 1 billion birds—yes, 1,000,000,000!—are killed each year by collisions with buildings. In just the Chicago Loop, more than 26,000 dead birds were collected over a ten-year period - and many more deaths were undetected.
It's not a small problem.
