Presentation: Learn to Identify Songbirds in Flight

Woody Goss, Birder Extraordinaire

Watching birds actively migrate, known as “visual migration” or “vis-mig,” is a type of birding that has grown in popularity in recent times. Chicagoland offers a great opportunity to see this phenomenon, but identifying birds in flight can be daunting. Join local birder Woody Goss as he tries to clarify some of the murkiness surrounding flying birds and unveils a novel approach to learning songbird flight using audio and video. This talk will focus on a small number of songbird migrants in early spring – all common birds that are easy to find and see in flight during the daytime, sometimes in large numbers, making them ideal species to start learning about flight.
