Wooded Island Bird Walk

  • Wooded Island, Jackson Park Meet at the west side of the Columbia Basin Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Hello everyone,

We had another sign of spring this week; the Red-winged Blackbirds are back! And they were singing up a storm. An adorable raccoon was in the second tree cavity and we could see its face. It did not look pleased that we were interrupting its nap.

The water on both lagoons was completely open so we had some nice waterfowl. Our lone female Common Merganser is alone no more – a handsome male was present today and the two of them were cozying up together. We also had two impressive looking male Common Goldeneyes on the east lagoon. A flyover Pigeon was an unusual sight for our walk.

Since we didn’t find a Great Horned Owl, here’s the next best thing; a nest-cam on Hilton Head Island: https://www.hhilandtrust.org/raptorcam
