Wooded Island Bird Walk

Hello everyone,

After a few very hot days, Saturday was lovely; cool and low humidity. I think the birds enjoyed it as much as we did.

Juvenile Purple Martins were plentiful. It looks like our local flock had a very successful nesting season. The Cliff Swallows covered the south side of the museum again, putting on terrific aerial displays for us. It’s really fun to watch them.

The Eastern Kingbird juveniles have fledged and were begging for food. We found two sitting side by side looking around expectantly. Mom or Dad arrived and quite a commotion ensued.

A Belted Kingfisher made an appearance; it’s the first time we’ve seen one in several weeks. And, and always, Osaka was waiting for us in the Japanese Garden.
