Wooded Island Bird Walk

  • Wooded Island, Jackson Park Meet at the west side of the Columbia Basin Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Hello everyone,

What a lovely morning it was. We had the always desired heron trifecta early in the day. Our resident Red-shouldered Hawk made an appearance and we finally had an Indigo Bunting. For some reason Indigos have been scarce in the park this year. A Mourning Warbler was heard but not seen, and Baltimore Orioles, Orchard Orioles and Warbling Vireos were both heard and seen.

The Red-winged Blackbirds are getting feisty while protecting their nests, as Leslie learned the hard way when she was dive-bombed. She said she could hear the wingbeats as it went by her head. The bird did not strike her but he made his point very clear.
