Wooded Island Bird Walk

  • Wooded Island, Jackson Park Meet at the west side of the Columbia Basin Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Photo: Mallard by Chris Miller

Hello everyone,

It was another lovely fall morning. Great Blue Herons were everywhere and one even flew in and landed right in front of us! I guess it wanted to say hello. A late Orange-crowned Warbler was a nice treat, but the biggest surprise of the day was the appearance of three Eastern Bluebirds. We have been lamenting the fact that we have seen very few bluebirds this year so their appearance was a delightful surprise.

The Wood Ducks have regrown their feathers after their annual molt and were looking stunning. We had fun watching a great glorious group of gorgeous goldfinches greedily gobbling and gorging on thistle.
