Whistler Woods Bird Walk and Seed Collecting Workday

We'll be hosting an intro to birding followed by a seed collecting workday this Saturday at Whistler Woods, in partnership with Friends of the Forest Preserves.

Even during difficult times, we have always been able to find and make joy. Now, the pandemic and the economy have us facing the toughest of times. We are all staying close to home and learning to appreciate the simple things. But we all feel the weight of these uncertain times and often feel cooped up, isolated, and stressed out.

Spending even a little time in nature has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression and to improve self-esteem, mood, and happiness. Stretch your legs, feel the sun on your face, and unwind at a free community bird walk led by the Chicago Audubon Society. Connect with neighbors, friends, and family while exploring one of the South Side’s nature preserves and reconnect with yourself.

Trained community volunteers will provide a simple introduction to birding and lead an easy walk through the preserve. As you hike, you will learn the skills needed to take the joys of birding with you wherever you go. Binoculars will be available, which will be sanitized before and after use. Feel free to bring your own if you have some.
