Shedd Stewardship Volunteer Days

  • Forest Way Picnic Grove #1 Forestway Dr, Glencoe, IL 60022 Glencoe, IL, 60022 United States (map)

Join Shedd Aquarium for a Great Lakes Action Day to make a positive difference for birds, amphibians, and other wildlife by restoring local habitats. We use hand tools to cut and burn invasive brush to make room for native flora and fauna. All ages and experience levels are welcome. For group request please reach out directly to: GreatLakesActionDays@sheddaquarium.org

Tools, gloves, and a light snack will be provided. We will burn a brushpile if conditions permit.
What should I wear to and bring for a habitat restoration workday?
* Grubby clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting muddy
* Avoid wearing synthetic fabrics as outer layers - this means avoid nylon shells and fleece jackets - because embers floating away from the fire can leave ugly scars if they land on those fabrics
* An old sweatshirt is a good choice.
* Closed-toe shoes are a must. Some volunteers like to wear rubber boots, especially after a rain.
* Dress in layers, especially for winter workdays. You'll probably work up a sweat.
* Bring a water bottle.

You can park on the gravel shoulders along Forestway Drive
E-mail us if you have any specific questions about workday conditions.

Volunteer workdays also happen the 3rd Wednesdays of every month from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm!
