John James Audubon and the Birds of North Park Village Nature Center

Join Mark Pohlad (Dept of History of Art and Architecture, DePaul University, Chicago) and North Park Village Nature Center staff for a special presentation––the birds found at the Nature Center as seen through the art and research of the painter-naturalist, John James Audubon.

It begins with a biography of Audubon and a look at his The Birds of North America (1827-1838), a landmark collection of hundreds of detailed images of individual species.  Dr. Pohlad then considers Audubon’s writing on some common species found at the Nature Center, along with basic information about each bird.  Altogether, this one hour Zoom presentation is an entertaining mix of history, art, and ornithology for bird-lovers of all levels.
