Find or Be a “Birding Pal”

Are you taking a vacation or business trip soon? Check out a really great web site called birdingpal.org, where birdwatchers can find local contacts. We found out about this site by way of Gail Goldberger, who was emailed by Knud Rasmussen, telling us all about his web site. Following is a portion of his message:

“Almost four years ago spending some time in British Columbia I got the idea for a website, where birdwatchers could find local contacts when they travel. Today Birdingpal is well established with more than 2000 contacts in 177 countries, US States, Canadian Provinces/Territories and thousands of people use it every day to plan their travel. Not only is the bird watching more productive, but they also discover new friends, and the safety of birding with a local birder is also something to be considered.

I think your members would be interested in Birdingpal…”

And, from the web site:

“The Global Birding Pal Club is where birders find each other.

The next time you travel, you can find a local birder who will show you around. You can also meet traveling birders who are interested in your area. Going on a business trip, to a conference or on vacation? Have a bit of extra time? Don't waste it, connect with a local birder who knows the local hot spots and have a great time birding. Locate the best places to find a bird for your list and meet nice people with the same favourite pastime as yourself. A Birding Pal is not a paid guide, but someone who likes to help out of town visitors. (I do list professional guides but they are clearly marked and identified with a resume and daily fees)”

The site is very easy to use; you begin with a map of the world, click on a continent, click on a country, click on a state, and before you know it, you have a list of email contacts in or near the area you are interested in. You can also become a Birding Pal yourself to assist travelers to your area.
